Kaleidoscope
"Kaleidoscope is a program of Scarborough Arts supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help school communities across Scarborough explore cultural diversity and creative expression through the arts."
Our class is very fortunate this year to have been selected by our Principal Ms. Belter and Vice Principal Mr. Vatzolas to be a part of the Kaleidoscope Arts program. This amazing program is provided by Scarborough Arts and is free of charge. Kaleidoscope offers students the opportunity to experience various art initiatives from actual artist who come to our classroom and teach the students how to play African drums, sing and dance. It is a five week program that is held twice a week (Monday and Wednesday) from 1-3 p.m. Below are a few links if you are interested in knowing more about this wonderful program.

Pen Pals
The students were very excited today to receive their pen pal letters from the students at Churchill Heights P.S. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to build a relationship with other kids their age from another TDSB school, while at the same time practicing their letter writing skills. We are currently in the process of writing our letters back to them. My hope is after several months of writing letters, our two classes will eventually meet.

How Many Ways Can I Make $100.00?
Using math manipulatives, the grade 4 students explored how to represent money amounts to $100.00 using various forms of bills and coins (e.g., $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, $50.00, $100.00, toonies, loonies, pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters). The students then recorded their results on chart paper to present to the class for peer feedback. The students had a fun time learning about money and how many ways we can make $100.00.

The Healthy Living Unit
As a class, we discussed the importance of living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle by taking the appropriate actions to ensure you have enough sleep, exercise, and are eating the right amount of nutritious food. Through drama, the students developed skits based on topics that dealt with drug use, bulimia, drinking and driving, and unhealthy eating. The students learned that their choices and behaviours in life affect not only themselves but others as well. As a culminating activity, the students worked in groups to create a salad recipe whereby each student was responsible to contribute an ingredient that would benefit their own and others' health and well-being. A special thank-you to our Principal Ms. Belter who offered to sample all of the salads. For Phys-Ed, the students have been participating in various obstacle courses designed by their peers. The obstacle courses have been both challenging and fun. The focus of the activity is to work every muscle group in your body. Way to go everyone!
